Alila Villas Hadahaa - Maldives, i am in charge for teh day to day operation of teh culinary team. Creating menus, new dishes & memorable moments for our guests. 

Education:  Describe the education, apprenticeships, or any learning experiences
that were necessary to learn the skills for your job, to acquire the credentials or degrees, and to qualify you to do your job.
basicly you need to have the passion and resoect for food. All skills you need get trained during your apprenticeship & the years after when you clim the latter. Handling food items with care, understand the important of working in a team are key points of this job. 

History:  Describe the history that led you to doing “what you love,” as a career:
early interests, experiences, motivation.

A family friend organize me a six weeks trainuing programm in a kitchen. I always loved to go out for lunch & dinner. Food and Hospitality attracted me in very strong way. I wanted to be part of it. As well the easy way to see the world and step into different cultures on the spot or with a multi national team makes it a very interesting job task. So i worked very hard to be where i am & the journey continues. Good people along my way always supported me and i try to give these experience and chances back to my team. 

Obstacles:  Describe any obstacles you had to overcome to do what you do now.
My family was not very happy, but always supportive,  that i decided to become  a chef. But very soon they realized "I love what i am doing" and it turns quite quickly around. 
Money wise it is the first years very hard to be chef. If you doing good and you always pushing yourself for better result it can be a wonderful job with a good salary as well.  

Mentors:  Describe others who affirmed your goal of doing “what you love,” 
and/or helped you in some way to reach your goal.

The first mentor i have had,  teaches  me how important it is to respect the product. He gave me so much knowledge along the way - absolutely amazing. As well old chefs of mine, supported me and recommended me for other jobs. At the end it is teh point of view i see this job. Its very hard, but the same time extreme fascinating.   

Advice:  Is there any advice that you would give to a young person about doing “what
you love?”

Believe in your self. Trust your feelings and follow your heart. You can not discover new oceans without having the courage to leave the shore.
